Beginnings (2002 Remaster)
Hello again! While we’re not quite off to the races again, we’re making progress, on both a professional and personal front. This step away has made me re-evaluate some of the mechanics in Tarot that I had put in place. For one: Poison damage.
No one likes the Swamp Levels in every FromSoftware game, they suck and are a slog and at the end of all that half your health is gone from poison damage. That’s no fun for anyone, right? How it originally worked here is it was a condition that would weaken your stats and make you take more damage from certain sources, but I have it on good authority that when you have poison in you, you don’t just “take more damage”, it’s a slow insidious thing that can turn your own body against you.
And honestly that’s no fun?
Not to delve too deep into my personal life (A lie, I know) but recent experiences have kind of soured me to the damage type. I know it’s a staple in the genre, but I want my game to be fun and even though it’s supposed to be a hard game, I don’t want it to be frustrating
That’s what poison is, to me. Frustrating. No one is excited to see a swamp level. No one likes to inch forward through the area hoping they won’t get hit with something and have to just stop playing to deal with it. That's miserable and not conducive to an enjoyable experience.
Anyways, hope all 4 of you that get it like the title of this post. Been reminiscing with my wife about the start of our relationship and I have always loved this song. I tried to make it "our song" but she fought back, and boy is she strong!
