Chariot, Sweet Chariot

Hello and welcome to the first Devlog for Tarot. While this is kind of an in media res thing since much of the assets are already created, I thought it would be nice to talk about my design process here. So for the game, I foolishly decided to not use a previously designed Tarot Deck, but to make all 22 of the Major Arcana by myself. While some assets I am rather proud of, others came out less than ideal

These ones I am very proud of. They’re simple, yet evocative. They have the major elements that mark each card as its intended self. Then we have the purpose of this devlog: The Chariot

Absolutely nothing that conveys what this card should be is present. It has black and white, and a field of stars, but also a weird head(?) shape and what look like golden laces of a sneaker. In my attempt to simplify the design and keep the core elements, it ended up a muddled mess. Will have to rework it so it fits more of the style. The CHariot card corresponds to success, and I feel like I did it a disservice. I’ve probably cursed my bloodline with this, huh?

I think it’s a sign I’m getting older when I titled this Devlog “Chariot, Sweet Chariot” and I realize I don’t know who this joke is for. Do people know about “So I Married An Axe Murderer”? My parents couldn’t find a babysitter so they took me along to see it, and it always stuck with me. It was actually the first movie I ever showed my then-girlfriend-now-wife. I thought “Hey, I like this girl, might as well show her a movie about dating a murderer” but hey, it worked! 17 years strong, high school sweethearts to marriage.

Anyways, bit of a ramble for the first Devlog, but that’s how I want to keep it. Kinda loose, stream of consciousness, let you all in my weird little world so you can see my thought process.
